Epiphany Explorers
November 2007

Recap of the October Adventure: We had 30 kids at the meeting at school and 20 people bike and hike throughout the day at Big Shoals. There were a few additional families at Little Shoals. Remember, use cell phones to contact us if you are unsure of exactly where we are.

School Meeting: Tuesday, November 13, 2:45-3:45 PM.  We will learn about water safety, kayaking, and canoeing. We want to include introductory fishing, but need an adult to teach that part; we are not knowledgeable in that area.  Because of the large number of kids and hands on activities, we need parent volunteers to keep the meeting running smoothly.

November Adventure: Saturday, November 24, 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM. The Lyon family will be bring their kayaks and canoe to Blue Springs Park, Inc. (4 miles west of High Springs on CR 340). This is a great park for families to learn and practice kayaking and canoeing in a safe setting. We will have paddles and a few life jackets. If you have life jackets for your family, please bring them. The spring runs out into the Santa Fe River. Experienced boaters may paddle this, remembering that the return trip is against the current. If parents who fish are available, kids can fish from the dock in the river. The park also has swimming, hiking, and camping. See their website www.bluespringspark.com for a map, cost, and detailed information about the facilities. Bring your own personal gear (water shoes, bathing suits or change of clothes, towels, and food). We don’t expect anyone to get wet above their knees unless they choose to.

If you cannot make Saturday, but are very interested in this experience for your family, please call us. We may schedule a make-up day. This is by far the best nearby place for a first kayak or canoe experience. The water is shallow and enclosed

Please mark your calendars. We will not be sending out additional notices. If there are any questions, please check www.otariinae.net/Explorers or call Bruce or Sandy Lyon (719-6902). We will be out of town Thanksgiving week, but back in time for this adventure. We will have our cell phones  (Bruce, 386-623-4378 or Sandy, 904-635-6288) with us at Blue Springs.
