Fall Camping Trip

On the weekend of October 17-19, 2008 the Bedoya, Mehalko, Reagor, Cooper, and Lyon families camped at Stephen Foster State Park. The park is located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. We had a great time biking, fishing and taking boats out through Billy’s Lake to Billy’s Island. We saw several alligators and lot of birds. Back in the campground we saw several deer. On Saturday night we retired a flag and then went to Mehalko’s campsite for marshmallows, hot dogs and s’mores. We had so much fun that we will make this an annual event for the third weekend in October. Cabins can be rented 11 months ahead. The date next year will be October 16-18, 2009. Campsites are easy to get, but you will need to reserve cabins many months ahead.

Pack It In-Pack it Out

Our classroom meeting on Monday, October 27th was about choosing snacks, clothing and personal items that will keep you comfortable, but are easy to carry. We put together several clothing choices that pack well. We also tasted several good trail snacks. Good trail snacks pack well, are nutritious, and don’t have a lot of trash to haul back. We talked about a personal hygiene kit to use when restrooms aren’t available.
